Iconic Australian Country singer songwriter, James Blundell, is this year celebrating 30 years in music.

In 1986, Blundell decided at the eleventh hour to submit an entry into the prestigious Star Maker talent quest at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. The judges saw past his hand written biography and witnessed a super star in the making. He was green, he was nervous, but once he opened his mouth and sang – the judges knew there could be only one winner – the charming young cattle hand from South East Queensland with THAT voice.

James Blundell has done it all during the last 30 years – winning dozens of awards, major chart hits and album sales, performing with the who’s who of music, travelling and playing abroad, narrating television programs and filming commercials for major brands. He’s also walked through the fires of hell and enjoyed the fruits of heaven – both professionally and personally. No matter what he goes through he always manages to dust himself off and come through with a great story to tell in a song.

After years in the musical wilderness, Blundell released the album “Come On In” in 2015. It was hailed as a rebirth of sorts for the country music legend – earning him a berth in both the 2016 Country Music Awards of Australia and the Southern Stars Independent Country Music Awards. The album spawned six hits including “Hills of Brisbane”, “Casuarina” and “When The Lights Go Out”.

In mid-2016, Blundell was already recording the follow up – “Campfire”. The idea was conceived following a conversation one day about Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska” album by James and his collaborator and label head, Karen Waters. The landmark Springsteen album was recorded at home on a cheap four track with the songs stripped back musically to allow the stories to breathe and the emotions to take flight. The album proved that perfection can be found within the imperfections. The concept of “Campfire” was to unearth songs with great stories and telling them the way you would around a campfire with your friends and to record an album which celebrated playing music with others.
